Family Selection & Support

Get Involved - Family Selection

Family Selection: Volunteers who serve on the Family Selection Committee will: interview applicants, make home visits to potential partner families, and make recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding family selection. Additionally, the family selection committee welcome bi-lingual volunteers who are willing to translate when needed. The Family Selection Committee meets irregularly as needed to consider new applications.

Family Mentors: These volunteers work one-on-one with a prospective or existing Habitat partner families on skills needed for successful home-ownership. They also assist their partner family through the building process and help them keep track of partnership requirements. Mentors may also serve as a friend, role model, tutor, and more for the children of Habitat homeowners ages 5 through 18.  Mentors are expected to make a one year commitment to the program and to schedule consistent visits with their partner family. Mentors will be required to fill out an application form, provide three references, undergo a criminal background check, and participate in a personal interview.
